NEVER BEFORE HAVE YOU SEEN an 18,000mAh battery pack. At least, not for any sort of reasonable price. Well, Energizer decided to make one. It’s called the Energizer Power Max P18K Pop, and someone decided to stick a phone to it.
The new Energizer phone is made by the French firm Avenir Telecom, and was announced at MWC this year. It’s an Android device with a 6.2in screen, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. It charges via USB-C because, well, it kinda needs the fast charge. A full charge is supposed to take 8 hours, which sounds a lot. A lot, that is, until you find out how long the battery lasts.
The phone is supposed to have an idle battery life of nearly two months, but its makers claim it’ll last for 48 hours of straight video playback, or 100 hours of listening to music. The rough estimate going around is that the phone will last for a week under normal usage.
The Energizer phone also has a triple lens setup on the main camera and a 16MP selfie camera with a 2MP depth sensor. In order to maximise screen-to-body ratio, the front cameras are mounted to a small unit that pops up from the top of the phone. As a result, the Energizer phone has tiny bezels and no notch.
The LCD touchscreen isn’t bad either, and you can use the device as a power bank as it supports OTG charging. Oh, and it comes in two colour variants: black and blue.
Does the Energizer phone have any drawbacks?
Of course it does. It’s 18mm thick for goodness’ sake. That’s a little over two iPhones.
The Power Max has pocket-straining dimensions. It’s certainly not going to fit in those skinny jeans you love so much. And, despite all that extra space, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack (
There’s no word on price yet, and weight hasn’t been disclosed (unsurprisingly). We at Bluefire are interested to see just how big the hole in your pocket is going to be after buying the Energizer phone, both literally and figuratively.
What else went down at MWC 2019? Well, there’s a new foldable phone about to hit the market.
